Hessonite, widely known as Gomedh or Gomed, is a honey-colored gemstone representing the shadow planet Rahu. In Vedic astrology, Rahu is known for its ability to bring sudden changes, rapid success, and worldly desires.

General Information

  • Planet & Zodiac: Ruled by Rahu. It is highly recommended for Aquarius and is often suggested for those undergoing the Rahu Mahadasha or Antardasha.

  • Physical Properties: A variety of Grossular Garnet, it ranks 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.

  • Origin: The finest "cow-urine" colored stones come from Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Other sources include India, Brazil, and Africa.

  • Color: Deep honey, reddish-orange, or brownish-maroon. A high-quality Gomed should look like a drop of honey when held against the light.

How to Wear Gomedh

Rahu’s energy can be erratic, so the wearing process must be precise:

  1. Metal: Best set in Silver. Avoid gold unless a specific planetary combination in your chart requires it.

  2. Finger: Wear it on the middle finger of the working hand (as it is the finger of Saturn, Rahu’s friend).

  3. Weight: Usually 1/10th of your body weight (e.g., 6 carats for a 60 kg person).

  4. Day & Time: Saturday during the evening (sunset) or early morning during Shukla Paksha.

  5. Purification: Dip the ring in a mixture of raw milk, honey, and Ganga Jal for 20 minutes to remove impurities.

  6. Mantra: Activate the stone by chanting the Rahu Beej Mantra 108 times: "Om Raam Rahave Namah".

Other Considerations

Gomedh should never be worn with Ruby, Pearl, or Red Coral. Because Rahu can be volatile, it is wise to consult a Professional Astrologer before wearing it to ensure it won't cause restlessness.
