Hessonite, widely known as Gomedh or Gomed, is a honey-colored gemstone representing the shadow planet Rahu. In Vedic astrology, Rahu is known for its ability to bring sudden changes, rapid success, and worldly desires.

General Information

  • Planet & Zodiac: Ruled by Rahu. It is highly recommended for Aquarius and is often suggested for those undergoing the Rahu Mahadasha or Antardasha.

  • Physical Properties: A variety of Grossular Garnet, it ranks 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.

  • Origin: The finest "cow-urine" colored stones come from Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Other sources include India, Brazil, and Africa.

  • Color: Deep honey, reddish-orange, or brownish-maroon. A high-quality Gomed should look like a drop of honey when held against the light.

How to Wear Gomedh

Rahu’s energy can be erratic, so the wearing process must be precise:

  1. Metal: Best set in Silver. Avoid gold unless a specific planetary combination in your chart requires it.

  2. Finger: Wear it on the middle finger of the working hand (as it is the finger of Saturn, Rahu’s friend).

  3. Weight: Usually 1/12th of your body weight (e.g., 5 carats for a 60 kg person).

  4. Day & Time: Saturday during the evening at or shortly after sunset.

  5. Purification: Before wearing, immerse the ring for 15–30 minutes in: Raw cow's milk, Ganga water (or clean water if unavailable), Honey, Black sesame seeds (optional). Rinse with clean water afterwards

  6. Worship: Place the ring before an idol or image of Goddess Durga or Lord Bhairava, and seek the blessings of Rahu. Offer: Blue or dark-colored flowers (if available), Black sesame seeds, Incense, Mustard oil lamp, Coconut or black gram (Urad Dal) as an offering.

  7. Mantra: Activate the stone by chanting below Mantra 108 times:

        Rahu Beej Mantra

            ॐ भ्रां भ्रीं भ्रौं सः राहवे नमः।

        OR

        Rahu Mantra

            ॐ रां राहवे नमः।

  8. After mantra recitation, Wear the ring on the middle finger while praying for:

    • Protection from negative influences

    • Success in career and business

    • Mental clarity and confidence

    • Relief from unexpected obstacles and delays

    • Progress in foreign travel and unconventional fields

    • Overall stability and prosperity

      Ongoing Practice

    • Keep the gemstone clean.

    • Chant the Rahu mantra every Saturday (11 or 108 times).

    • Worship Goddess Durga or Lord Bhairava according to your tradition.

    • Donate black sesame, mustard oil, blankets, or food to the needy on Saturdays.

Other Considerations

Gomedh should never be worn with Ruby, Pearl, or Red Coral. Because Rahu can be volatile, it is wise to consult a Professional Astrologer before wearing it to ensure it won't cause restlessness.
